Cybele LoVuolo Bhushan is a long-term community organizer. Cybele also serves on the board of the ACLU Mid-Peninsula. She is the past Chair of the AAUW Educational Foundation, a founding board member of the Indo American Community Service Center, former co-chair of Bay Area Action, which merged with Peninsula Conservation Center to become Acterra. She served as a board member of the former YWCA of Palo Alto and has volunteered at the Gandhi Youth summer camp in Olema, CA. Cybele is a certified TESL (Teacher of English as a Second Language), is certified in Mediation, Clinical Hypnotherapy and Neuro-linguistic Programming. She received an award from Family and Marriage Enrichment; a group that promotes the health of marriage relationships through workshops and on-going group support.

Joan Goddard, MLS, founding Board member and Secretary, is active in several women's and peace and justice organizations in Santa Clara County. Joan was a leader in the San Jose Pay Equity Strike of 1981 and resulting "women's work" salary improvements and was later president of the San Jose Municipal Employees Federation union and of AFSCME Local 101. Joan founded and co-chairs the local Coalition for Equal Pay, sponsoring activity for the annual nationwide public-awareness-raising Equal Pay Day. Her three-decade library career included supervision of San Jose Public Library's Vietnamese materials collection as well as branch library manager assignments and state and national library association work regarding prison libraries and pay equity for library employees. She enjoys a hobby of helping people get to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival plays in Ashland.

In addition to programming space for women, the Cardea Center for Women can provide a home for these organizations to grow and serve. The Center can provide incubator space for developing programs involving women of all categories and circumstances throughout Santa Clara County and surroundings areas. Karita Hummer, LCSW, has a private practice as a Clinical Social Worker in San Jose, where she conducts psychotherapy with children and adults and provides consultation to mental health professionals. She has extensive professional experience in working on behalf refugees and immigrants who are victims of war trauma and psycho-political torture, having served as Clinical Director at Eastern European Service Agency. She has been a Mental Health Program Consultant for the Bosnian-Herzegovinian USA Cultural Association (BHUCA, coordinating two Bosnian film festivals. Karita Hummer graduated with an MSW degree from the University of Pittsburgh, 1964 and received a Certificate from the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Program, 1979. She has lectured widely on the subject of Childhood Bereavement, Divorce, Psychological Trauma and Refugee Mental Health.

PATRICIA LEE is the Director of the Office of Legal Services, Access & Fairness Programs at the State Bar of California focusing on equal access to justice for low and middle income Californians, as well as increasing diversity in the legal profession, the judiciary and among State Bar leadership and providing support for local bar associations, legal services providers and other entities supporting legal services and the profession. Ms Lee has served as the Director of Santa Clara County’s Office of Women's Advocacy (OWA) spearheading the work of the newly created office addressing critical issues affecting women, girls and families in the county. Prior to that she served as Director and Chief Administrative Officer for the Legal Aid Society of Santa Clara County. Ms. Lee was inducted into the San Mateo County Women’s Hall of Fame in 2006 and has served in leadership positions and or boards for a variety of non profit community and legal services organizations including the United Way of Silicon Valley, Santa Clara County Bar Association, Bay Area Legal Aid, Law Foundation of Silicon Valley, and as a founding member of the Pro Bono Project of Santa Clara County. Ms Lee received her BA from the University of California, Berkeley and is a graduate of Hastings College of the Law, admitted to the State Bar of California in February 1972.

Lata Patil, founder and President of the Cardea Center for Women,has been a community activist and an advocate for women’s rights that has spanned over 20 years , which she says, taught her the value of social responsibility. She is the immediate past Chair of the Santa Clara County Commission on the Status of Women where she guides the Task Force on CEDAW, the UN Women’s Bill of Rights. In that role, she oversaw two critical projects for the county – impact of recession and budget cuts on low-income women resulting in a report called Women’s voices: Front and Center; and a project on the general status of women in Santa Clara county with special attention to gender discrimination and economic equity called Bringing Equality Home, using the framework outlined in the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Platform for Action of the 1995 Beijing conference. Her advocacy efforts in the county on this issue resulted in the passing of a resolution by the SCC Board of Supervisors in 2005 affirming their commitment to its principles.
In 2001 she initiated, the Women’s Action Network – an online collaborative of women’s organizations on the Peninsula and South Bay for advocacy on legislation and public policy affecting women and girls. Lata displays her passion for promoting a dialog about justice and equity for women and her dedication to community building through leadership positions on a variety of non-profit community organizations such as the Public Policy chair at the former Mid-Peninsula YWCA and the Support Network for Battered Women. She is also the regional representative for CAWA - The California Women's Agenda. Earlier, she was responsible for initiating the very first community center and a domestic violence program for South Asians in the Bay area.

Mariah Cherniss is committed to helping organizations and teams utilize effective communication, leadership and collaboration to drive results. She has served as lead researcher at a global benchmarking forum for internal communication executives and is currently a communications and organizational development consultant with Blue Beyond Consulting, providing counsel and support to large organizations on strategic communication, leadership development and program management. Mariah also has a passion for promoting women's issues and has played a leadership role in the Accelerating Women’s Entrepreneurship (AWE) campaign and organizations such as WYSE (a female mentoring organization), the Women's Brain Exchange, and Gather the Women. In addition, she organizes semi-annual Women's Retreats on personal
growth and development.
