The Cardea Center’s activities support our vision of a world without barriers, fulfilling the CCW’s motto of “Opening doors to opportunity, Enriching lives through education, support and outreach; Empowering women by valuing their voices, leadership and contributions”.
The Cardea Center achieves this by engaging the whole community on behalf of women as a way to catalyze positive change. Our approach is to reinforce rather than replicate the efforts of local women's organizations. We build strategic alliances with service providers, community-based organizations and other key stakeholders to connect women of all ages and serve as a comprehensive clearinghouse for community resources and information. We also organize and partner on a number of women’s initiatives and events that align with our vision and mission.
The center focuses on four main areas of interrelated issues covering a wide array of activities, designed to increase the opportunities for women.
A ‘Hub’ For Women’s Activities: Create a resource and networking center (initially virtual and ultimately physical) for women and women’s organizations with adequate space and physical characteristics to facilitate trainings, workshops, forums, etc.
Work And Economic Advancement:Provide opportunities for career and professional growth, including micro-enterprise development and access to resources to improve women’s economic advancement and security.
Personal Development And Public Engagement:Support women’s personal development encouraging self-discovery. Encourage their civic participation in both the public and private sectors in their communities; assist women to pursue their leadership aspirations and build skills for effective advocacy.
Advocacy and Public Policy:Increase awareness and dialogue about current policies and legislation affecting the welfare of women and girls at regional, national and global arenas. Offer critical perspectives on women’s concerns and issues, as well as opportunities to connect with and support national and international efforts.
